Successfully Making the Transition
from Labor to Management
- What benefits and costs should I consider when
adding employees?
- Am I ready to add employees - will it really help
my business grow and succeed?
- What are the business, accounting, tax and legal
implications of hiring?
Management Self Assessment
- What does it take to be an effective manager? ( Am
I ready to be a manager of people along with everything else?)
- What skills do I have that will help me manage
others? What skills could I develop further?
- What resources are available to me to help me to
become an effective manager?
Managing a Small Farm Workforce
- What is it is really like?
- What are different ways to organize and manage a
small farm workforce: paid and unpaid volunteers, seasonal and long-term
employees, interns, subcontractors, succession plans for owners/managers?
- Where do I find people?
- How do I hire the best person for my business?
- How do I keep good people? Strategies for
orientation, training, supervising, delegating, and performance reviews.
- How do I deal with layoffs/dismissals, wage rates,
etc.?
Joe Stratton
holds a Bachelors degree in Agriculture and recently
received an MBA from Penn State. Joe has experienced the joys and challenges of
owning and operating a small family farm in an ever changing environment. He has
also been recognized by the Equipment Leasing Industry as a Certified Leasing
Professional (CLP). Joe has been a successful manager for a large agribusiness,
helped start several small businesses, and worked with his parents and other
family members to enable a smooth transition of their family farm to the next
generation.
